Flourishing Fridays are about things to consider as you head into the weekend.
Today, I am focussing on learning something new.
Some of you may have incorporated activities from the daily posts into your life and others may still be in coping and surviving mode. Either is perfectly fine, as you are exactly where you need to be right now. But to move from coping and surviving to flourishing and thriving, you need to learn and grow. This can simply be continuing one or more of the various daily post activities you have tried out, continue decluttering to make space for new things, or you may want something a little bigger. So, I’ve done some of the grunt work for you and have a range of free, super cheap, discounted and awesome short and a little longer courses for you. Some are from the world’s best universities, whilst others are just from passionate individuals looking to share and educate. The hardest part will be deciding on which one you want to try out……but whatever you decide, start small and don’t overwhelm yourself. Choose something you are passionate or curious about. Mostly, have fun.
MOOCs
Welcome to the world of MOOCs (for the uninitiated, that’s various universities offering FREE Massive Open Online Courses). Most can be done in your own time and give you lifetime access to the resources. There are a handful of course aggregators out there, but I think the best ones in terms of course offerings and quality unis are: https://www.edx.org/ and https://www.coursera.org/. Here’s a guide to free MOOCS: https://www.gooduniversitiesguide.com.au/study-information/free-online-courses-moocs.
For anyone wanting to get the basics on positive psychology and some of the things I have been highlighting in the daily emails, I recommend: https://www.edx.org/course/the-science-of-happiness-3.
The University of Qld has just released some business courses for $8 https://business.uq.edu.au/community-courses.
Physical and online learning
Laneway Learning offers a range of diverse and fun classes. Normally, these are held in funky buildings down Melbourne’s hidden laneways, but at the moment are all online: https://melbourne.lanewaylearning.com/.
Humanitix and MeetUp also have a range of classes, some are free, whilst others charge various fees for: https://humanitix.com/au/ and https://www.meetup.com/.
University of YouTube…
Or maybe, you just want to try to learn to juggle (balls, not life) with your kids/housemates……’cause it’s a super mindful activity and who doesn’t need juggling skills!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCYDZDlcO6g
You’ll probably find any other explanatory video on something you want to learn or know on YouTube as well.
Wishing all the mums a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.
Enjoy!!
